DriveTracker was created to keep track of the amount of free disk space on file servers and bulletin board systems. You may view the amount of free space on all drives onscreen, in a printout, or you can remotely check the available space by reading the text file this application creates (if you set it up to create one).
HOW TO USE:
-----------
Launch DriveTracker and you'll see a list of all mounted drives (unless the window was hidden). For each drive, the program lists the name, amount of free space, number of files, whether it is on-line and whether it is locked. Initially, the program sorts the drives alphabetically by name. By clicking on the words "Name", "Avail", "Files", "On-Line" or "Lock" in the header, you may change how the program sorts the list of drives. Alternativly, you may change the sort method using the View menu.
Double-click on any line to get more detailed information about that drive: time of initialization, last modification time and size and type of volume. Choosing "More drive info" from the Utilities menu does the same thing.
If you wish to print out the status of the drives, choose Print List from the File menu. This gives you the same information you see onscreen, only you get to waste a sheet of paper, too!
KEEPING A LOG FILE:

If you're running a BBS or server that you administrate remotely, you'll probably want to use DriveTracker's log file feature. With it, DriveTracker periodically writes a text file listing drive information. To use this function, choose Preferences from the File menu. Click "Create Text Log File" and tell DriveTracker where you want the output file to live.
Next, tell DriveTracker how often you want the text file to be updated. DriveTracker will wake up every so often to update the drive info onscreen and in in log file. You can select time ranges from 15 minutes to 24 hours. You may choose "Update List/Log File" from the Utilities menu to force DriveTracker to update the information right away.
If you only want the most recent drive data kept in the log, choose "1" in the Stored Updates pop-up. If you want an ongoing log of drive space, choose "Continuous" instead. Don't forget to throw away log files once in a while: they can get quite large (once a log file reaches 32K it will be erased and will start a new one). If you choose "Erase text file" at startup, DriveTracker will erase the old log and start anew every time you run the program.
When you open the Text Log File with your favorite text editor, it's best to view in a mono-spaced font such as Monaco to show everything in its proper alignment!
OTHER GOODIES:
--------------
If you wish on-screen, printed and text file logs to only include "unlocked drives" (drives that can be written to) choose "Excude Locked Drives" from the Preferences menu. Choosing this will force DriveTracker to ignore CD-ROMs, locked floppy disks and so on.
If you wish to hide DriveTracker's window, choose "Hide Window" from the File menu. This is probably only useful for BBS and file server operation.
And just an extra feature for the heck of it, you can choose "Verify selected drive" from the "Utilities" menu to verify all sectors of any mounted, unlocked disk.
